What this statement by Sophocles is saying is that it’s better to fail by doing the right thing and cheating than winning and cheating. For example say you’re in a basketball playoff and then you’re going to do a layup and you travel but the ref called it’s better to say the truth and say you travelled then to win the game and lie. This is what I think this great statement is saying.
